Note that if you try a main term, procedure, or root operation and it is not found in the index, then you need to try another main term or procedure/root operation name to see if that one works. There are times where you have to try several different words that you might think are main terms before you find the correct main term in the index that will lead you to the correct code.
Make sure you have read about main terms in each code book before trying to determine main terms. Each type of coding system varies a little in how main terms are determined.
