article review should have 3 distinct sections.

  • A discussion of the criteria by which the quality of educational research articles can be judged (for the quantitative article you’ll discuss the criteria appropriate for quantitative research and for the qualitative/mixed methods article you’ll discuss the criteria appropriate for qualitative/mixed methods research). You need to review the appropriate articles; find additional articles and/or websites, if necessary, to expand or clarify your thinking; and develop a structured method to evaluate the quality of the educational research. This activity is meant to help you (1) come to a better understanding of how to evaluate educational research and (2) give you some structure when you complete the required article reviews.
  • Brief summary of the article. Essentially, I’d like you to write an extended abstract where you briefly summarize the introduction, methodology, results, and discussion/conclusions of the article. This should really be the shortest section of your paper.
  • Use the criteria you developed in the first section to evaluate and discuss the quality of the educational research discussed in the article. You should discuss the crucial flaws and positive features of each section of the article (introduction, methodology, results, and discussion/conclusions). You should also include a discussion of how the article relates to your own research proposal and how it has enhanced or changed your thinking about your chosen topic.
